Frida Selander - Brainy Business (second single off the album “Try Again Baby”)

As much as I’m hesitant to post this video, since it shows scenes of winter, it’s too catchy of a track to pass up for today. Enjoy the cool refresher in the hot month of may. You’re welcome.

PREMIERE: White Life - “Time is Wasting”

Jon Ehrens, joined by his sister Emily Ehrens for vocals, White Life is a lyrical romp through pop history, infusing the beat driven dance model with a soulful, retro feel.

The sibling duo has worked with many influential musicians in Baltimore, including Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak, who provided harmonies and production on the album, Chris Freeland and Andrew Bernstein. Ehrens previously led The Art Department, whose Paperwork/Birdwork album was named one of the Top 10 albums in 2010 by the Baltimore City Paper.

Baltimore’s White Life releases their debut album Monday, May 30th on Ehse Records. With catchy + captivating guitar licks and keyboard-drenched tracks plastered in front of addictive beats, every hook on this glistening LP transports you to a youthful collective past and at first listen - blissfully carefree. The self-titled album can be streamed here on the Ehse website.

Rugby - Indian Corn Ep

I honestly have never heard anything like this duo puts together. The style of grunge-pop using only a drum set and a keyboard is pretty original. To tell you the truth, these guys have figured out their sound and it sounds great.

They have been touring the mid-atlantic in support of their self-released cassette for several months, & are getting material together for an upcoming record (due out this fall). Get your appetite up on some Indian Corn and you’ll surely want to hear more.

Check out their Bandcamp / facebook / ‘n MySpace. They’ve also recently recorded a live show you should check out.

Yournalist - Nigerian Girl // Slippery and Infected EP

These light Hawaiian grooves have got summer on my mind, and homework off it. The childish yet simplistic rock Yournalist creates here is the perfect sound for the blistering months to come. The progressive pop-rock group released their debut ‘Slippery and Infected EP’ on May 4th, off new indie label Drink Tonight Records and have spent the last year playing frequent shows while carefully crafting their debut EP.

The young band already has plans for the future, and the aim has been set high: ”Our goal is to get one of our songs into the ‘Guitar Hero’ game. And we’d also like to play some shows.” -Santeri (bass)

You can download the opening track of the EP, ‘Nigerian Girl’ for free from the band’s website. The music video for ‘No Time To Kill You’ will be released soon.

SPRCSS - Back in the Music Scene

It’s been eight years since SPRCSS released any new material, but with snail-mailed cassettes and emailed demos passed between distant members, nearly-abandoned recording sessions, and ongoing discussions as to what this band actually is, SPRCSS has found their way back on to the music scene.

Reformed in 2007 the band continues to document the post-art-punk pummel that is SPRCSS. Their two new independently released digital EPs, “03/2009” and “05/2010” produced by Ian MacKaye can be found on Bandcamp. Grungy chords and simple lyrics layered in front of a fast drum beat, is true homage to garage band sound.

“These new digital EPs will confirm what you already didn’t know or knew you needed to.”

Boy Party - July

North Carolina bros Jordan & Nathan create unorthodox beach vibes that are quite soothing to listen to. The pitter-patter of drumsticks and their reverb heavy guitar swells out the vocals causing them to have more undertones, creating an interesting illusion. Their lo-fi, bedroom grunge works. They’ve also got a Label called Personal Records which you should consider having a look at.

Check out their self-made video for their song “I Saw You.”

Lucas Nedellec Uh Uh Uh (off his EP Les Filles Et Les Garçons)

I got this really interesting submission from Lucas Nedellec, a young French artist. He discovered music software around roughly two years ago, and began composing electronic dream pop on his little midi keyboard ever since. I don’t speak French so when I saw his huge EP title I’ll admit I was a little scared. But a few clicks later, and with the help of google translate, what I discovered was a name not scary at all. His EP Les Filles Et Les Garçons or Girls and Boys is a three track set which can be grabbed over at his Bndcmp.

James Blake - Lindisfarne

New James Blake track and a new video to go right along with it. What else can I say? You know the drill: sit back, listen, and let those soft electronic tones sweep you off your feet.
