PREMIERE / FEATURE :: Whistle Peak - Upcoming Album “Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls”
Track: “Wings Wont Behave”
“Whistle Peak is pop music in disguise and experimentation at its core.” If you looking for a small journey through different portals that lead you to places you’ve always dreamed of visiting, this album is the one. It’s clearly evident that each track has been carefully ordered and transitions were specifically picked, simply making the journey of your imagination slide gracefully bye.
Whistle Peak’s style of folk, is original in that it blends acoustic instrumentation with twinkling, hypnotic sounds forming songs of love & loss and joy & darkness. With each listen, you’re pulled closer and surprising small amulets layered beneath continuous melody fill your mind. Enter a world where nature rules and men and women are entranced in dream-filled slumber.
It’s pretty hard to only listen to one song off the album. I suggest you take part in the full journey and listen all the way thru when it comes to digital mp3, CD, and teal-colored LP on Feb. 14th, 2012.
Highly recommended you listen to this with some quality headphones
Brooklyn-based Jesse Brickel is Young Yeller. A classically trained percussionist bringing his own brand of electronic bedroom dream pop. He’s already made a sizable dent in the blogosphere with his honeyed vocals, backed by tinny percussion, reverb guitar, and gentle synth. The catchy choruses of these tracks will cling to you like a neodymium magnet (a really strong magnet) but that’s just the start. I don’t know what else Young Yeller puts in his stuff but whatever it is, it’s addictive as hell.
The best thing about an EP like this, is the solid consistency each track shares. In other words, every single track on this album shows the talent of Brickel in a way that can’t be expressed through words but rather, only listening.
He’s even nice enough to be offering his talented works for free over at his Bndcmp. So, you should be courteous and take the time to download it, right? Yes. And you won’t be disappointed.
Brickel is currently working on a full-length LP, set for a release later this year.
Los Angeles based band The Alternates just recently completed their debut EP “Spiders and Webs,” and are ready to share their music with the rest of the world. The band is composed up of six long time friends who have been playing together for over seven years, now that’s commitment.
After what must have been a long rough time of trial and error these guys have surely found their sound. ”Over the years our sound has developed like a good barbeque. The result of this sonic marination is a blend of modern alternative sound-scaping mixed with Neil Young inspired, telecaster driven, Americana.” However their track “The Modern Way” sounds like a mix of rich acoustic rock and raw harmonious retching vocals with a hint of country.
It’s taken them a long time and they do have something special here, as a band and especially with this EP. Also the band says they are extremely thankful of that fact that the EP was funded by contributions from fans that they obtained through a fundraising campaign on kickstarter.com. That’s pretty rad, and they’ve got some really great support.

Ghost Animal is a band comprised of Michael Avishay, who has been writing and recording in his bedroom studio under the name Ghost Animal since he was 15, and Marisa Rowland, a friend of Michael’s whom he asked to fill in/play drums prior to an upcoming house show in April of 2010. Ghost Animal then expanded from a solo bedroom project into a two-piece. Their sound could be described as experimental lo-fi, fuzzed-out and airy. However, Ghost Animal is much more than that. The ingredients that fills their songs with personality can only be achieved with both Michael and Marisa. Without one another, it just wouldn’t be the same.
Ghost Animal’s first physical release, a cassette entitled Summertime in Heaven (September 2010) was put out as a collaborative effort between the cassette labels of Coma Cinema’s Mat Cothran (Summer Time in Hell) and Foxes in Fiction’s Warren Hildebrand (Orchid Tapes). Ghost Animal also has a cassette entitled Youth, out now on Kill/Hurt, and currently have a few projects ready to be released in the coming months.
There’s not much I can say other than this EP is fantastic! Ya know when you find a great track and when you tell you friends about it they ask you to describe it but you just can’t? Well, this is one of those situations. With four catchy, magical tracks it’s gonna be hard not to like it. And to top it off they have given this Ep its rightful name: Seasons. It’s the perfect fit for an Ep that feels like it’s taking you through every season. So listen for yourself and spread the word. Atlantic At Pacific has absolutely out done themselves this time. Orchestral indie rock band Hey Rosetta! hails from St. John’s, Newfoundland. St. John’s is relatively isolated from the larger Canadian indie rock scene. With 2008’s Into Your Lungs, Hey Rosetta! toured Australia, China, Europe, the US and Canada. They earned a reputation for dynamic live performances and were shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.
Their upcoming album, Seeds, is out February 15 on Sonic Records. The album was thought up while touring in support of Into Your Lungs over the last three years. “Yer Spring,” the first track of their upcoming album, is filled to the brim bells, soft drums, delicate guitar riffs along with soft vocals, violin and other orchestral instruments. This pop-rock track is so good it’s for sure going to be on constant rotation!
The video was originally intended to be purely a concert film, with footage taken from two mid-December shows in the band’s hometown. However, after director Noah Pink followed bandleader Tim Baker around St. John’s one evening, camera in hand, the film took on a whole new life…
Brooklyn based electro-pop duo Dynasty Electric announced the release of the video for “Golden Arrows,” the first single from their upcoming 3rd album. The Ski Beatz-produced track includes a guest appearance from lyrical stylist Mr. Lif. Directed by Dennis Feitosa, the video for “Golden Arrows” follows the band as they spread good vibes through New York’s Union Square with a collection of friends and musicians in a 70s-style Winnebago, part of the band’s own charity.
Their highly anticipated 3rd album Golden Arrows is scheduled for release in spring 2011 on Damon Dash’s BluRoc Records. It features an infusion of hip-hop beats with the band’s signature mixture of electronica, psychedelic rock and pop and marks yet another step in the band’s musical growth.
The band has also confirmed an album release show at the Canal Room in New York City on March 3, 2011. Tickets are available at the Canal Room box office @ 212.941.8100 and online.
